‘God will be there too, in the darkness just as much as He ever was when you were walking in the clear daylight.’ – Richard Bewes
In his short book, “Talking About Prayer”, Richard Bewes offers this vital insight. Presently in our world it is estimated that 1 out of every 6 people will experience a period of depression in their lifetime. During these times it is easy to feel alone, lost and confused. At times the very thought of praying to God seems almost impossible – it’s as if he wouldn’t hear anyway. I know this to be true from my own experience and yet equally I am comforted because I know he is with me.
Jesus becoming human is a tangible expression that God is near us. Christians do not serve a distant God but one who physically entered into the daily grind, endured grief and agonised before suffering on the cross. This is a God who has been through the darkness. Even as I write I am encouraged because Jesus has been there too. And even more, he journeys with us as we go through the darkness.
